STRO Precinct Captains Endorse Ryan Higgins for State Representative
After a rigorous interview process, precinct captains from the Schaumburg Township Republican Organization (STRO) have decided to endorse Ryan Higgins’ candidacy for state representative in the 56th District. Higgins garnered the required 60% of the precinct captains’ vote to win the endorsement for this position, which is currently held by Democrat Paul Froehlich. A healthcare attorney with McGuireWoods, LLP, Higgins is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Duke University Law School. Higgins had previously served on the staff of U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald. In June 2008, he was a delegate to the Illinois Republican State Convention and a candidate for Republican National Committeeman. He delivered a speech at the Convention and was featured in the Illinois Review in an article entitled “IL GOP’s Future.” To win this endorsement, Higgins faced stiff competition from Char Kegarise, a member of the District 54 school board and Anita Forte-Scott, Schaumburg Township District Library trustee and former state representative candidate. The three candidates presented their views and qualifications to the 35 precinct captains who attended the July 16 meeting. “This was the first candidate endorsement for STRO and it was anything but mundane,” said Mike Adelizzi, committee chairman. “Nearly everyone who attended had an opportunity to have their say and be an integral part of the selection process. Unlike many voters who only go to the polls in the general election, the precinct captains have the opportunity to have a say in who will appear on the ballot in the primary or general election.” So in the coming weeks Ryan Higgins will take his candidacy to the voters and explain where he stands on the issues and what he expects to do by representing the residents of the 56th District in Springfield.
