Highlights of November STRO Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Schaumburg Township Republican Organization was held Saturday, November 3, following a breakfast buffet at Chandlers in Schaumburg.

Chairman Mike Adelizzi opened the meeting following the Pledge of Allegiance. Plans were announced for two upcoming special events. The December meeting will be a potluck holiday party on Sunday, December 2 to be held at Gatewood Clubhouse, 100 Shoreline Circle in Schaumburg and a Lincoln Day dinner is scheduled for January 24, 2008 at the Stonegate Banquet and Conference Center in Hoffman Estates, with all of the five surrounding townships will participate in the Lincoln Day dinner.

Adelizzi reported that more precinct captain appointments have been made, but openings are still available. Those interested should contact him directly. Republican judges are still needed for the primary election in February and for the general election in November. Current pay for judges is $150.00 per election. Also, Technical Advisors are needed for both elections. This is a new position which requires special training; pay for this position and training is upwards of $500.00.

Featured speakers following the business meeting were State Senator John Milner (R-28th) of Carol Stream and Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider (R-15th) of Bartlett.

Senator Milner spoke about the budget battles in Springfield and explained why a process that should have started on January 1, 2007 and be completed by May is still not finished. He stated that the primary reason is infighting among the Democrats who control both the Senate and House as well as the Governorship.

Commissioner Schneider told how Republicans on the board helped defeat the 2 cent sales tax increase promoted by County Board President Todd Stroger. He also presented a lengthy list of Stroger family members and cronies who are on the Cook County payroll with very substantial salaries totaling over a million dollars.

Both men pointed out that the Illinois Democrats answer to budget shortfalls is always to increase taxes rather than to strive to live within budget limits.

A lively question and answer period followed the talks from Milner and Schneider.
